Mossy Oaks

February 28, 2010

deep in the moss
After a gloomy Saturday morning in St. Simon’s Island, off the Georgia cost, a walk through a mossy oak park located in the center of the Island, turned out to be a nice sunset afternoon. This is definitely one of my favorite places to visit. The Island certainly has lots to offer guest and visitors. A must if you’ve never been.

Day Before Departure

February 21, 2010

What a crazy moment that the day before Shiloh and I were to depart to Las Vegas we got 3-6 inches of snow!! Not only were we worried that the flights would be canceled but also disappointed that the day it snows is the same weekend we were leaving and not really enjoy the snowy weekend. But we got lucky and thanked that we live in Georgia and not D.C. (boy did they get some snow). Sure enough the snow had stopped and it warmed up the next day for the roads to clear and the planes to fly! We got lucky twice! For me I grabbed the camera put on my boots and coat and had a friend dropped me off around the area. I walked back home and got some shots in the process.

Knowing that the snow wouldn’t last very long once the sun came up, I got up early for a sunrise walk and drive. The roads were a bit slippery but not bad enough to stop me from exploring the area for some morning snow shots.

I really wanted this shot to be a “during” and after shot. I just can’t sleep-in knowing that there’s shots to be taken before its to late and melt away. The next day was very peaceful and quiet. Yes there was people out trying to drive out in the icy roads but It was still nice to be out early without cars roaring by. I can only imagine to be out in the wild with only the sounds of nature waking up.
down & out
After a walk, I got in the car and drove around for a few more shots. I went to a park not far from the house and on the way I saw that the street sign of Old Norcross Rd and Simpson Circle was knocked over. Wow I bet that did some damage.

Valley of Fire, Nevada

February 21, 2010

The first trip of the year was spent in Las Vegas to enjoy a bit of our favorite Sin City. After enjoying some gaming on the “Strip” it was time for Shiloh and I to take a little road trip to The Valley of Fire. What an amazing place to visit. The landscape is immensely colorful with wonder and awe. So far with visits to Zion National Park in Utah, The Grand Canyon in Arizona, and the latest trip to Valley of Fire in Nevada, I have found that the great western states have so much to offer for landscape fanatics. I feel that a day is simply not enough time to soak in all the beauty. That is why I want to one day make a western road trip for a least a month.

Reflections Of Autumn

November 7, 2009

There’s nothing more peaceful than to sit and soak in the natural beauty. What an opportunity to capture this sunset over Berkley Lake in Duluth.

I grew up around this area as a young kid and remembered how beautiful it is here.

Stretching Our Legs

November 7, 2009

A very close friend Eric Eaton and his son Heron join in the adventure. Eric Eaton is a cofounder of an environmental organization called Green Monkeys Foundation. We meant for avolunteer assignment, instead we ended up taking in the crisp air with the little sun light there was and enjoy a quite moment. Just in time too.., the day changed after this stop as it got colder and gloomier.

This past Saturday Shiloh, Eric & his son and I drove up north to help clean with The Nature Conservancy…, unfortunately we didn’t make the location. Yeah it was a real disappointment. I’m usually very good with directions and we arrived to the small town of Murray County but from there we could not find the road we needed to turn into. Well, while we kept driving we reached the foot hills of the Appalachian Mnts. and stopped for a minute to stretch our legs.

This Saturday I will be heading up to Holly Creek Preserve along the Conasauga River to help clean & maintain the river banks and trails. The Nature Conservancy Organization will be hosting a clean-up work party from 9 a.m.-Noon. Everyone and anyone is welcome to participate & help make a difference. If interested just click on The Nature Conservancy for additional information or contact me through my email: www.nabphotos@gmail.comWhile I’m helping out, I will document the work and possibly get some more great landscape photos or wildlife pictures. If you would like to view and post your favorite with a vote in The Nature Conservancy Flickr page.
