Great Night For Cover Bands

October 4, 2010

Not long ago, I got to see a great cover band by the name of ‘Eulogy‘ who are a Tool cover band that performs with close likeness to the sound and stage presence. Since the last show I’ve been waiting to see them again and this time I was ready by bringing my camera in hope to capture the lead singers dramatic stage appearance as he paints his entire body from head to toe, this time with a blue powder.
As a huge fan of Tool, Eulogy brings out the energy of each fan as they intensify the feeling of excitement and rage within. The experience is explosive and electrifying! “Like the best live experiences, it is not only seen, but felt.”

Its Over & Done!

August 4, 2010

So I know its been a few months from my last blog and I do apologize for my absence. I have been editing the heck out of some picks from my latest venture plus an on going and I mean “an ongoing” project for my client X3 Sports (mixed martial arts gym). A promotional video for their team training program (along with other short promo videos). A production that I have been working on for months. Its been an up hill battle with series of issues from files crashing, program failing, software corruption hiccups… multiple trips to the Apple Store for assistance regarding my Final Cut Express program corrupting. Finally I was told that the only way to recover any of my files and my 98% complete project was to purchase the Final Cut Pro software. Apparently, this was the only program to recognize the encrypted files from the Express edition. I was not one bit impressed about the news… (yes, I was happy that not all my hard efforts was going to be lost)… the fact that this program retails over $1000 made me even more frustrated. With no other choice other than to start all over (which I was really not looking forward too) I asked my client to go ahead and pay the remaining balance of the project so then I could purchase the program and finish it. The story goes even further with more crazy drama but to put in a nut shell… I had to re-shoot some missing footage to fill in the blanks. Wheeww, I just finished it a few days ago! The best part now is to see it all complete. I learn a few things along the way and I am getting more familiar with the new Final Cut Pro. I’ve recently purchased an Advanced Edition paperback to get even sharper and faster with my work. This only means more production projects to come. This is by far the longest video, its over seven minutes long. I am extreme happy to be done so I can move forward with other projects.

I really enjoyed producing this video and I am already working on new projects for individual fighters. For the obvious, the music selection has to be fast paced so that one can get pumped up and motivated (especially me). ¬†The video and pics also have to show that rush feeling too. This means quick cuts, tons of material (for best diversity), ¬†organization, and an idea of how its all going to flow. Thats the toughest part, filling in the gaps… oh boy I gotta say thats harder than it sounds. Thats why after I get back from the gym, (while it still fresh in my mind) I begin organizing the files and watch the material and decide what stays and what goes. Usually I only use a few seconds of recording for the quick cuts and for those extra long recordings, I cut them or chop it up to give it different effects, like slow motion or sped up. Once thats done then, I view it with music and see if it needs any other changes. Thats pretty much to it. I mean there’s other things that you can do. If you have any inquires about the program or the video please leave me a comment and I’ll respond promptly. Thank you and I hope you enjoy it especially if you are a fan of this extreme sport!

Kimbo Slice In Rome, Ga

January 26, 2010

What a great and exciting night! The Forum in Rome, Ga was packed to a Sold Out crowd on Saturday January 24th.

The place was full of screaming MMA fans from all over the region. I couldn’t believe how popular this sport has become in Rome. I of course never been to a Rome fight, so for being my first, it was electrifying to see such a turn out!

I had my friend Josh Kelley, a fellow photography graduate, to come out and shoot with me. I thought this would be a perfect opportunity for him as he is a great sport photographer quick to the action and he also, conveniently, lives out here in Rome, Ga. What a chance for him to feel the excitement of shooting such an intense sport. In addition, a great perk about having full access is that we get to meet and get pictures taken with these huge super stars like Special Guest KIMBO SLICE!

Here is an action shot taken by Josh Kelley… GREAT SHOT Buddy!!
From what I saw from his camera, he took some amazing shots. I can’t wait to see them on the big screen! I’m looking forward to shooting with him again.

Tex Johnson Fight Video

January 20, 2010

Tex Johnson MMA Fight Video
Uploaded by nabphotos. – Check out more sports and extreme sports videos.

On December 18th 2009, Tex Johnson fought 24 year old Johnny Buck at Will Bill’s. It was a record win of 13 seconds for Tex. As a favor, I created this fight promo video for him and Team Sponsored Fan. Lisa Cave met me at Wild Bill’s for a great night of MMA fights as they hosted a Charity Event- Toy’s For Tots. Lisa helped me by being my second shooter. She did a great job and was able to get a couple awesome shots that fit well in the video and deserved credit. Thanks again Lisa for all your help!

In this image, Lisa captured a moment full of detail and great lighting exposure… definitely my favorite. I love how all the dust is flying through the air and you can see one of the judges on the bottom right corner watching with great intensity as Tex is getting ready to enter the ring.

Showdown At Bakgkok Fight Night

December 7, 2009

I am very much convinced that this was the best Friday Fight Night ever!! It was hosted at Center Stage in down town Atlanta.

After shooting non-stop, I had to get my portrait in the ring! I set my camera on top of the corner matte, and hope that it didn’t fall… sure I could have asked someone to take my picture but everyone seemed so occupied. Besides it was so spontaneous that it didn’t really occur to me to ask. Not bad other than not being super sharp but I don’t really care. I’m glad that it came out without losing my camera… wheeeew!
